How to understand your true identity in Christ…

When you're not sure who you are anymore. What does God say about identity, and how to move forward.

If I were your enemy, I'd go straight for the jugular. I'd make you question every part of yourself. Your body, your beauty, your ideals, your preferences, your value, and your intellect.

I'd make sure to toss a grenade so volatile, that I could literally walk away from the toss, knowing that there would be no survivors, or evidence left behind.

Your brain is a battlefield...

Friend, this is what the enemy does to God's precious daughters. He doesn't need to be omnipresent like God, because just one thought will do all the dirty work for him. He may launch the grenade, but we pull the pin and put it in our own pocket. This is why it is absolutely vital that we fight back.

As daughters of the king, we have the power of Christ dwelling IN us. This means that we actually have all the power. 2 Timothy 1:7 [NIV] "For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but give us power..."

So how do we harness it? Romans 12:2 [NIV] "Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."

RENEW YOUR MIND-every day. Remind yourself that God knew you before you were knit together in your mother's womb, he knew you AND set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5).

He created you with the utmost intention, and for a very specific reason. Nothing about you is a mistake. The one who created you knew what he was doing. We don't always understand why he gave us this hair, or this skin, or this voice, and these weird gifts that don't seem to fit anywhere, but HE knows, because he is the author of your identity.

The best way to get started, is to know with unwavering confidence what God actually says about you. When we declare God’s words over ourselves every day, we will start to believe what is true, over what we’ve believed our whole lives.

One of the coolest things about our brain, is that it can grow and change. It’s called, neuroplasticity. Up to now, you’ve believed something about yourself. Maybe it’s “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not worth it” or “my needs don’t matter”, but those thoughts are not truth. It’s time to “demolish arguments, and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10: 4-5

Speak God’s words over yourself every day. Meditate on them, and let the truth of what God says about you be louder than any other voice in your mind.

To get you started, I’ve created a PDF with 10 powerful affirmations (and their scripture reference) that you can hang on your bathroom mirror. As you get ready every morning, speak these words of truth and life over yourself.

You are SO loved
